YS Sharmila, chief of the YSRTP and daughter of the late former Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy, has achieved significant recognition for her “Praja Prasthanam Padayatra.” This endeavor has secured her a spot in the Indian Book of Records. Sharmila’s padayatra entailed walking 3800 kilometers across Telangana, marking her as the first woman to cover such an extensive distance.
The Indian Book of Records representatives extended their congratulations and bestowed an award upon her. Beginning on October 20, 2021, from Chevella, the same place where her father had initiated his YSR Padayatra years prior, the journey spanned about a year and a half and was filled with challenges.
Despite these hurdles, Sharmila exhibited unwavering determination. Throughout the march, she critiqued the Telangana government’s policies. Her comments in Narsampet escalated tensions, leading to her arrest. Though the march was temporarily halted, Sharmila’s team secured legal permission to resume, granted by the court.
It’s important to mention that Sharmila had previously undertaken a padayatra in Andhra Pradesh. However, her exceptional accomplishment of walking 3800 kilometers in Telangana has earned her a distinguished place in the Indian Book of Records.
