Bengaluru: Reversing the downward trend of Sunday, 38,603 new Covid cases were reported in a day across Karnataka, while 476 patients succumbed to the infection, said the state health bulletin on Monday.
“With 38,603 new cases registered on Sunday, the state’s Covid tally shot up to 22,42,065, including 6,03,639 active cases, while recoveries increased to 16,16,092, with 34,635 discharged during the day,” said the bulletin.
As epi-centre of the pandemic in the state, Bengaluru reported 13,338 fresh cases, taking its Covid tally to 10,64,396, including 3,64,382 active cases, while 6,90,291 recovered, with 10,097 discharged during the last 24 hours.
The infection claimed 476 lives, including 239 in Bengaluru, taking the state’s death toll to 22,313 and the city’s toll to 9,722 since the pandemic broke out in mid-March a year ago.
Among districts where over 1,000 positive cases were reported on Sunday are 2,324in Hassan, 2,322 in Ballari, 1,980 in Mysuru, 1,915 in Tumakur, 1,748 in Belagavi, 1,322 in Shivamogga, 1,288 in Uttara Kannada and 1,087 in Mandya, with the rest spread in the remaining 22 districts across the state.
Out of 97,236 tests conducted across the state during the day, 6,424 were through rapid antigen detection and 90,812 through RT-PCR method.
Positivity rate rose to a record high of 39.70 per cent and case fatality rate was at 1.23 per cent across the state on Sunday.
Meanwhile, 67,582 people, including 58,014 above 45 years of age and 2,821 cohorts in the 18-44 years age group were vaccinated across the state during the day.
“Cumulatively, 1,12,60,587 beneficiaries received the jab since the nationwide vaccination drive was launched on January 16 across the southern state,” added the bulletin.
