The controversy surrounding the trailer of ‘The Kerala Story’ has escalated. Initially, the trailer depicted the main character, played by Adah Sharma, being converted to Islam by a classmate and coming from a Hindu family. It was claimed to be based on a true story about 32,000 women missing from Kerala who had joined the terror group ISIS. However, the description has since been changed to say that the movie is about the true stories of three young girls from different parts of Kerala.
The producers faced significant backlash for misrepresenting the facts, which prompted them to alter the trailer’s description. The Union Home Ministry data indicates that 62 young people from India have been identified as having joined ISIS since 2014.
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, who raised questions about the contentious claims made in ‘The Kerala Story,’ has now said that he rests his case, given the filmmakers’ updated movie description.
The teaser, which was released in November 2022, still states that the movie is about the “heartbreaking and gut-wrenching stories of 32,000 females in Kerala.”
It remains to be seen whether ‘The Kerala Story’ will be released as planned, or if it will face significant censorship hurdles.
