Leonardo Dicaprio is at that stage in his career, where he can pick and choose roles. It is well-known that his current film in production is Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon.
The film is set for release in 2021 and is presently in the process of production. Based on a 2017 non-fiction book Killers of the Flower Moon, the film also stars another Hollywood giant Robert de Niro. The highly-anticipated film tells the true story of the killing of native Americans in Oklahama during the 1920s.
This is nearly the sixth time when Scorsese and Dicaprio have come together for a film. Since 2002, both of them have collaborated in five films and a short film during their long association. Killers of the Flower Moon is being made by Apple Inc and will be distributed world-wide by Paramount Pictures.
While it comes as no surprise that Leonardo Dicaprio has accepted to do a film dealing with the dark history of America, it seems he had to fight for his role. Apparently, he was to play the part of ‘the good guy who was supposed to be part of the then nascent FBI’. But Leonardo is said to have fought with the scriptwriter of the film to get the part of Robert De Niro’s nephew. Now, Robert De Niro plays the villain and Dicaprio will be playing a character that is torn between love and the evil plots of his uncle.
This indeed has changed the very nature of the film and made it less lucrative for the makers. But Leonardo Dicaprio did have the last word and the production house is going ahead with the ‘big’ change.
