Minister KTR has initiated the programme to improve road network connectivity in the city. Given the recent floods in the city and problems of last-mile connectivity in many areas, the TRS government along with Hyderabad Road Development Corporation, a special entity under GHMC, have taken up the ambitious mission to address the long-pending issue of connectivity by joining the missing links between important arterial roads. As a part of the process, new link roads will also be laid.
Another major reason for the new drive is to reduce the constant and increasing traffic jams on main roads during peak and sometimes even during non-peak hours. The programme was started by ministers KTR, Sabita Indira Reddy and Talasani Srinivasa Yadav. A total of 137 link roads are currently under progress, informed KTR.
Signal jumping, wrong-side driving, over speeding are common on city roads and this has been creating problems especially during peak hours. Though the city has local train system, buses and now boasts of a metro rail service, many commuters choose to use to private vehicles in Hyderabad and this has led to increasing traffic in recent years.
Families using multiple cars has become a norm and this too has added to the congestion on the roads. Added to this is the problem of bylanes where the roads are not pucca and heavy vehicles plying these lanes lead to blocking of traffic on main roads.
Hyderabad also has the problems of some areas overdeveloping leading to overcrowding almost all through the day. In an attempt to surmount the issue, minister of IT, industries, MA and urban development, KTR, is now taking measures that are likely to help the people of Hyderabad in days to come.
