One thing has clearly emerged after Dubbaka by-elections. During the initial days of canvassing, it was felt that there would be a tough fight between Congress party and ruling TRS. However, about a fortnight before the elections, it was obvious that the fight became a direct confrontation between BJP and TRS.
Both the parties have campaigned belligerently and are looking at the result with great anticipation. One thing though is certain. This has set the stage for the forthcoming GHMC elections. It is pretty clear that the GHMC elections will be a direct fight between BJP and TRS.
While TRS’ KTR is overseeing the poll matters for GHMC, BJP’s local chief Bandi Sanjay and union minister Kishen Reddy are looking after their party matters. Both parties are gathering enough ammunition to bombard their rivals.
BJP has big plans to corner KCR over the recent floods in Hyderabad and surprisingly, KCR too intends to fight BJP on the same point. Not one to be left behind, KCR is not leaving any stone unturned to criticize the BJP and central government. Following the floods, KCR sought Rs 1350 crore aid from the Centre. But Modi has been completely silent on the matter.
So this has given KCR a strong point to strike back at the Centre. As per KCR, the central government has been doling out packages to states that are BJP-ruled, while ignoring states ruled by regional parties. KCR points out that while Rs 500 crores was given to Gujarat, Rs 670 crore was given to Karnataka. But Modi has been unperturbed when it came to Telangana.
Looks like the TRS-BJP battle will be rather interesting to watch during GHMC elections.
