AP CM Jagan’s decision to form three capitals in the state right after coming to power resulted in a huge controversy. Entire capital region of Amaravathi erupted with protests demanding that the capital shouldn’t be shifted and status quo should be maintained.
However Jagan went ahead with his decision to have three capitals and also AP Governor gave green signal to the bill. But with the issue now in the High Court where discussions are going on whether capital formation decision falls in the purview of the Central Government or the State government, AP government has taken a key decision.
It filed an affidavit in the Court that Union Government made it clear that capital formation decision is the prerogative of the state governments. It has to be seen where these arguments in the court will lead to.
