In a surprising development, there are indications that the team behind the movie “Salaar” is considering withdrawing its release from PVR, INOX, and Miraj multiplex chains in South India. Reports suggest that the Salaar team is currently refraining from providing content to national multiplex chains, citing alleged unfair trade practices observed across their properties in North India.
There are claims that several theaters in North India are dedicating all their show slots to another film, Dunki, showing minimal interest in allocating showtimes to Salaar. An example cited is a PVR INOX single screen in Mumbai that has allotted all its showtimes to Dunki, sidelining Salaar completely. This trend might spread to more theaters in the North.
Salaar’s argument revolves around the National Multiplexes not accommodating their higher demand for screens despite it being more substantial than that for Dunki. Losing Salaar in the South could signify a significant loss in revenue for these Multiplex Chains, which they cannot afford. Simultaneously, these Multiplexes contribute around 30% to the gross in several areas, making their support crucial for Salaar’s success.
It’s likely that discussions will be initiated to resolve this deadlock between Salaar’s team and the multiplex chains, as both parties have a vested interest in finding a solution.
