Khammam district has historically eluded significant support for the BRS, even during the Telangana movement. Despite Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s efforts to secure victories in the district’s 10 constituencies, Khammam remains a challenge.
KCR, determined to sway the district in his party’s favor, strategically attracted several MLAs from opposing political factions, including Minister Puvvada Ajay, former MP Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, and MLAs Sandra Venkata Veeraiah, Meccha Nageswara Rao, and Vanama Venkateswara Rao. However, the recent shift of influential figures like Tummala Nageswara Rao and Ponguleti to the Congress has weakened the BRS in the region.
Speculation suggests that Puvvada may face challenges in the upcoming elections, and the BRS might struggle to secure victories in any constituency, except possibly Sattupalli. Khammam’s resistance to the separate Telangana sentiment, coupled with its proximity to Krishna and Godavari districts, where residents prefer traveling to Eluru and Vijayawada, complicates KCR’s attempts to gain support.
Despite KCR’s relentless efforts, the party’s fortunes in Khammam remain uncertain. The outcome of the upcoming elections will reveal the extent to which KCR’s endeavors can influence the BRS’ standing in the challenging political landscape of Khammam district.
