State tribal welfare minister Satyavathi Rathod inaugurated a gurukul sainik school in Ashok Nagar in Warangal. Speaking on the occasion, she said the school would provide a good platform for adivasi students to excel in their chosen careers.

The erstwhile tribal welfare school was upgraded with latest infrastructure so that the tribal students could prepare for a career in defence services. The officials lauded the efforts of CM KCR in trying to put the tribal children on par with privileged children and releasing funds despite the pandemic. It is said that Telangana is one state with most number of gurukul schools and the state government is said to be spending about Rs 1.25 lakh per student per annum.

Mahabubabad MP Maloth Kavitha expressed hope that she would procure funds from the Centre to develop a sports complex, so that it helps the students of the gurukul to excel in sports of their choice.

Given their built, the tribals are well-suited to be recruited into armed forces, felt the officials. The move was also seen as a step towards ending child marriages among adivasis.

Meanwhile, Narsampet MLA Peddi Sudarshan Reddy requested the authorities to give preference to local girls during intake.
