August 7, 2018, marks the 4th National Handloom Day. It shares significance with Swadeshi Movement that started on August 7, 1905, in Kolkata. Narendra Modi launched the 1st National Handloom Day in 2015 at Chennai.
In AP this year, the National Handloom Day is being conducted in Chirala. Prakasam District Collector, Vadarevu Vinay Chand, confirms that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will participate in programmes held at Pandillapalli Mandal Parishad School and St Ann’s College of Engineering and Technology. Collector, Chirala MLA Amanchi Krishnamohan, and few other officials are overlooking all arrangements.
Telangana IT Industry Minister, K. T. Rama Rao, will inaugurate Handloom Expo at Peoples Plaza, at Necklace road in Hyderabad. Ranjan, Textile and Handloom Principal Secretary, confirmed that KTR will be presenting the Sri Konda Laxman Bapuji Awards. Handloom waiver scheme will also be officially launched during the programme.
Exhibitions, Fashion shows, and other competitions are to be conducted across both the Telugu states. It is expected that the Handloom brand ambassadors will continue to actively promote in their own style.
