After shifting from Madras, Hyderabad became the hub for Tollywood. Though Hyderabad used to be Tollywood’s capital, many filmmakers used to shoot in the exotic locations of Visakhapatnam. They used to prefer Visakhapatnam for any outdoor shootings. However, things changed drastically following the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh into Andhra and Telangana.
Visakhapatnam is sidelined completely and is seen in one or two films. The filmmakers used to prefer North India or foreign locations but stopped thinking of Visakhapatnam. After the bifurcation of the state, there was a rumor that Vizag would be made into the second hub of Tollywood. However, that did not materialize.
But after Jagan took over the reins from Chandra Babu, he seems to be extremely serious about turning Visakhapatnam as one of the capital and also bringing Tollywood to the city.
Minister Perni Nani announced that the government will provide all support for the construction of studious in Visakhapatnam and also permit film shootings under a single window and also many sops.
Ace producer Ramanaidu constructed Ramanaidu Studios spiraling in over 35 acs near Rushikonda. Jagan’s government apart from developing it will pay attention to construct new studios. It is planning to establish a cine hub in over 1000acres near Visakhapatnam and turn it into a preferred destination to all south filmmakers. Analysts say if the government take an initiative, film industry need not depend only on Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam will turn the new destination for Tollywood.
