The epic love story of Shaakuntalam written by Kalidasa has delighted literature lovers for ages, and while many filmmakers have attempted to bring it to the screen, few have succeeded.
Unfortunately, Gunasekhar’s version with Samantha in the lead falls short, and the biggest issue is Samantha’s Telugu language, which is heavily influenced by Tamil. Despite her acting skills, fit looks, and glamour, Samantha’s dubbing is a nightmare for Telugu audiences, and her poor diction and modulation make it difficult for viewers to connect with her character.
It’s a shame because Samantha shot to fame for her voice in her debut film, Ye Maaya Chesave, but for some reason, she has chosen to dub herself in all of her movies, even though it’s not her strength. It would be better for her to work with a different dubbing artist if she has issues, rather than trying to do it herself. This is sincere and honest advice for the actress from all circles.
