There’s a strong proven fact that sequels don’t work in Telugu except for in rare cases. Filmmakers who tried to cash on the craze on the super hits have added ‘2’ and came up with movies that are not true sequels. ‘Arya 2’, ‘Kick 2’, ‘Manmadhudu 2’ are some examples which doesn’t have any link with the originals and ended up as duds.
Actor Nikhil who has been quite selective in movies hasn’t released any movie for a long time. He came up with Karthikeya 2 after a long gap and the movie finally got released after several troubles. Let’s see what the movie is all about.
Story:
Karthikeya, an atheist is a doctor by profession gets suspended from the hospital after he beats up the local mayor for performing yagam in ICU. Under his mother’s force, Nikhil visits Dwaraka for offering prayer.
In Dwaraka, an aging archaeologist asks Karthikeya to complete a mission and his granddaughter (Anupama Parameswaran) helps Karthikeya in the mission. They along with Srinivas Reddy and a few others embark on an adventurous journey to find Lord Krishna’s ankle to save the world. Can Nikhil succeed in the mission or not is the rest of the story.
Plus Points:
The theme
The last half an hour of the movie
Production values
BGM
Minus Points:
Too many cinematic liberties
Inconsistent first half
Verdict:
When director Chandoo Moneti announced the sequel to Karthikeya, many were of the opinion that the sequel wouldn’t work. But, unlike the first part, the sequel focuses on the transformation of Karthikeya from a non-believer to a believer. Director has managed to balance mythological and science. Despite a few faults, the movie is a thoroughly engaging thriller that gives the audience a ‘wow’ factor. The movie is a decent watch that engages throughout.
