Actors and actresses are speaking out about the challenges they faced in their early careers, with many revealing stories of rejection and mistreatment. Radhika Apte, who previously spoke out about being mistreated by a South Indian actor, has now shared some absurd comments made about her body during her early roles.
Radhika says, ‘Perceptions are strange. People used to think that I could only be a village girl for the longest time, till I did Badlapur. After Badlapur, people thought I could only do sex comedies, I could strip. So, I stopped. I just never said yes to them. Perceptions are a bit bizarre. I lost a film because I was overweight by three or four kilos. Of course, when you’re new, they say, ‘Why don’t you get a better nose; why don’t you get bigger breasts?’ That was in the beginning.’
In a recent interview with Film Companion, Radhika revealed that she was told to get a better nose and bigger breasts. She also stated that she is no longer willing to tolerate such comments and will take action if anyone makes similar remarks in the future.
Radhika also shed light on an open secret in the entertainment industry: the pressure to attend award ceremonies in order to win awards. She shared that she was offered an award for her performance in Monica Oh My Darling, but only on the condition that she attend the ceremony. Refusing to succumb to this kind of manipulation, Radhika chose to skip the event and told them to keep the award.
