After delivering cult hits like Little Hearts and Raju Weds Rambayi, producers Bunny Vaas and Vamsi Nandipati are set to release a horror thriller titled Eesha. The film is being produced under the banners of Vamsi Nandipati Entertainments and Bunny Vaas Works, with a theatrical release scheduled for December 25. The film is directed by Srinivas Manne and features Akhil Raj and Trigun in lead roles, with Hebah Patel playing the female lead. Siri Hanmanthu, Babloo, and Prithviraj play other important roles. The film is presented by noted producer K. L. Damodar Prasad and produced by Hem Venkateswara Rao under the banner of HVR Productions. Speaking to the press on Tuesday, lead actor Akhil Raj shared insights about the film and his experience working on it.
When asked about returning to screens with Eesha soon after the success of Raju Weds Rambayi, Akhil Raj said, “The release date of this film was finalized unexpectedly. I had agreed to this film even before Raju Weds Rambayi. I was selected after an audition. Director Srinivas Manne chose me for the role. I believe the audience will embrace this film as well.”
Reflecting on his first reaction upon hearing the script, Akhil Raj said, “I was shocked by the story. It immediately engaged me. Horror thriller fans will definitely find it a unique experience. The film has superb twists and sound design. It is a film designed to offer a true theatrical experience. The lighting patterns, visuals, and sound design are impressive. It provides a new kind of experience.”
He further stated, “I was startled when the story was narrated to me, and I felt the same again after watching the trailer. Vamsi Nandipati and Bunny Vaas succeeded with Little Hearts and Raju Weds Rambayi. I believe they will see the same success with Eesha. This film will definitely scare everyone.”
Describing his role, he said, “I play a character named Vinay, one of four childhood friends. I am happy to have worked alongside talented actors like Trigun, Siri, Hebah Patel, and Mime Madhu. I learned a lot from this film, especially from director Srinivas Manne.”
When asked about the preparation he undertook for the role, Akhil Raj said, “I take ownership of every project I do. I have the same confidence in this film. I am also actively promoting it from my side. One must work hard without expectation—if the content is strong, nothing can stop the film. The universe will deliver the desired result.”
Recalling an incident during the shoot, he said, “After shooting in Araku, I was bitten by an insect and suffered from fever for a month. Other than that, no unexpected events occurred.”
Regarding the background score, Akhil Raj said, “The sound design is terrifying. It’s crafted to genuinely scare people. Those with weak hearts might not be able to watch it.”
Asked why he chose to do a horror film, he said, “I want to be seen as a versatile actor. Until now, I’ve mostly played the character Raju. Now, I’m appearing as Vinay, which is completely different. Horror offers great scope for performance because it involves a lot of imagination. Director Srinivas Manne selected me after seeing glimpses of a web series called Sakhiya. I believe Eesha will earn me recognition, which is why I accepted it.”
When asked how the success of Raju Weds Rambayi changed his life, he responded, “It changed my life completely. I will always be indebted to that film and its team. It gave me a face and recognition. It’s a special project in my career.”
On whether he fears ghosts or spirits, Akhil Raj said, “I used to be scared when I was young. I was afraid to go out at night. But as I grew older, that fear disappeared.”
Speaking about director Srinivas Manne, he said, “He is a director with clarity and conviction about cinema. He is particularly strong when it comes to thrilling elements. I believe this film will definitely succeed.”
Regarding his upcoming projects, Akhil Raj revealed, “Four to five projects are currently in the discussion phase. On one set, I’m working on a film with Tarun Bhascker and Anupama. The director is Bhadri. This is the film I’m doing after Raju Weds Rambayi.”
