In one of the shocking events, popular Punjabi singer Daler Singh Mehndi who sang some songs in Telugu got arrested and was sentenced to two years of imprisonment. He was arrested in a human trafficking case that dates back to 2003.
Earlier too the singer was given 2-years imprisonment and this time the court has also upheld the same sentence. However, when he got his sentence in 2018, he was later released on bail.
In 2013, an FIR was registered at the Sardar Patiala police station, and he was booked under sections 406, 420, 120B, 465, 468, and 471 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Indian Passport Act. In the same year, his now deceased brother Shamsher Singh with two others were also convicted in the human trafficking case by the Patiala Police.
According to the reports, Daler Mehndi promised to several people that he can send them abroad (especially to the USA and Canada) illegally. The singer also said they can go as a part of his dance troop for foreign shows. And in return, he would demand a heavy amount of money.
