It is 12 years since 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks

26/11, 2018, a day that shocked the entire nation. Terrorists claiming allegiance to groups from Pakistan entered our territory and went about shooting randomly at select but popular locations in Mumbai like Leopold cafe, Taj Palace and Towers, Oberoi Trident, The Nariman House, Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, The Metro Cinema, among others. Many innocent people lost their lives and it was obvious that it was a well-planned operation meant to instil fear among Indians.

Taj Palace and Towers targeted during 26/11 attack

Ten Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists from Pakistan arrived by sea and opened fire that resulted in the killing of 166 people, including 18 security personnel. The 60-hour siege ended after several others got injured. While nine terrorists died in the operation, Kasab was the only one who was captured alive by security forces. He was hanged four years after the attack.

A Rabbi and his wife were also killed by the infiltrators along with 5 Israelis during the dreadful attack. The two-year-old son of the Rabbi survived and baby Moshe went on to become the face of innocent victims.

To mark the occasion, Mumbai police have organised an event to commemorate the killings at Police Headquarters at Crawford Market. Mumbai Governor, CM, Police Commissioner and other dignitaries will be attending the ceremony. Family members of those killed will also partake in the ceremony.

Israelis too have been extending their condolences for the past 12 years and this year events will be held at Jerusalem, Rehovot and Tel Aviv on Wednesday to remember the departed.

On Thursday, which is today, Israelis have events planned in Beersheva and Eilat. Also, there will be a virtual ceremony on Zoom, for which hundreds of Israelis have registered.
