Congress to support farmers’ bandh on December 8

The protesting farmers on Delhi borders have called for Bharath bandh on December 8. The unrelenting farmers are seeking a ‘yes or no’ answer from the government.

The ruling BJP government has been assuring that MSP or minimum support price from the government will not be done away with. However, farmers are not convinced. As the days of protest are increasing, their protest is being increasingly supported by various groups and parties. Former agriculture minister Sharad Pawar also said that the government must consider the demands and grievances of the farmers. “We export grains to nearly 13 countries, they must be heard. If farmers from Punjab and Haryana are protesting, government must take note. If protest continues, it will no longer be limited to Delhi,” he said.

Now, the Congress party has extended its support to the protesting farmers. Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera has confirmed that the Congress will be extending whole-hearted support to the farmers’ bandh on December 8. He said that Congress chief Rahul Gandhi was already trying to sensitise people by holding tractor rallies, signature campaigns and kisan sammelans. All their cadre in Pradesh headquarters and district headquarters will participate in this bandh, he clarified.

On the other hand, Kailash Choudhary, MoS Agriculture, BJP government, has maintained that farmers in the country were in support of Modi’s farm laws. However, some opposition parties and the Congress were trying to add fuel to fire and exaggerating the matter.
