Lagadapati effect: Independents turn golden ducks

The Telangana election counting will begin in a few hours now and we can already feel the heat among the Mahakootami and TRS leaders. Despite national surveys giving a clear edge for TRS, both Congress and TRS are working on their interests keeping in mind the survey published by Lagadapati Rajagopal.

Not to give the opposition a chance for a last minute gimmick, TRS President K Chandrasekhar Rao has called upon AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi to discuss on forming an alliance, in case TRS falls short on the majority. It is rumoured that AIMIM will get two cabinet berths if that happens.

Similarly, Congress is purely banking on the track record of Lagadapati on surveys. Seeing independents as the golden ducks it is investing all it could to bring them back under its control, who are mostly rebels from Congress. On the other hand, surprisingly, BJP is also working on attracting independents.

The agenda behind the move from BJP is to become a decisive factor in government formation in case of a hung assembly.

Congress is not leaving any scope for the ruling party either. Learning from its past experiences, it has already sought appointment from the Governor at 3 PM to request him to first call Mahakootami to form the government in case of a hung. All these moves have paved way for independents in Telangana to become hotcakes. We will have to wait and see how the results unfold which has already turned into a thrilling T20 match, thanks to Lagadapati’s survey effect.
