Singing sensation Shirley Setia has two films in her kitty. One film happens to be now complete Bollywood’s Nikamma and another film is an untitled production of Naga Shourya’s production house.
Nikamma is a romantic comedy directed by Sabbir Khan. Shirley gets to act opposite Shilpa Shetty and Abhimanyu Dassani. The Auckland beauty was supposed to have her first release in June 2020, but the pandemic has pushed the dates. As for Shilpa Shetty, it is an end to her 13 years of sabbatical.
Shirley Setia is no girl-next-door. She had released her singing videos on YouTube and became a singing sensation. Once success came to her, she started collaborating with other YouTubers from US, UK, Canada and India. One New Zealand newspaper labelled her as the – pyjama popstar, as most of her recordings were done in pyjamas in her room. Apart from pursuing her studies, this YouTuber also radio jockeyed before deciding to move to Mumbai to follow up on her dream of making it big in Bollywood.
But that is not all, Forbes magazine mentioned her as — ‘Bollywood’s next big singing sensation just might be this tiny Kiwi’. She has also been called India’s YouTube sensation and as one of New Zealand’s biggest international artists.
As of this month, Shirley Setia has 3.60 million viewers on YouTube.
So, what’s her connect with Tollywood. This New Zealander has been roped in by Nag Shourya’s production house to play the lead opposite him. The film will be directed by Aneesh Krishna and produced by Nag Shourya’s mother Usha Mulpuri. The film is yet to be titled and is called #NS22 for now.
