In Telangana’s current political scenario, there’s a fascinating mix of experienced elder statesmen and young opponents vying for positions. Despite the general perception of retirement age around 60, several septuagenarian leaders continue to actively participate in politics, showcasing their seasoned experience.
Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, the Speaker of the Telangana Legislative Assembly, has a long-standing political career spanning several decades. His son was initially considered for the electoral run, but Pocharam himself secured the ticket from his stronghold, the Banswada Assembly constituency. Another veteran, Vanama Venkateshwara Rao, nearing 80, brings decades of political experience to the race. Despite having a son in politics, Rao was preferred by the BRS party due to his extensive background and ministerial service.
Allola Indrakaran Reddy, aged 74, has won consecutive elections and served in both the state Cabinet and as an MP. His continued participation in the electoral race showcases his enduring political prowess. Marri Shashidhar Reddy, also 74, holds the distinction of being elected as an MLA four times. After a long tenure with the Congress party, he shifted to the BJP and is contesting from Sanathnagar amidst a challenge from BRS candidate Talasani Srinivas Yadav, the incumbent Cabinet Minister.
Ramreddy Damodar Reddy, a seasoned politician with five MLA victories, received a last-minute ticket from the Congress for the Suryapet constituency. Despite their age, these seasoned politicians are actively engaged in the political arena, facing off against younger opponents.
