During a recent interview on the Today Show, Priyanka Chopra shared how she became her own “hype girl” to overcome difficult situations she faced as a teenager when she moved to the US.
Priyanka spoke about her struggles during high school, recalling how out of place she felt and how she didn’t know how to navigate the high school environment, including the cafeteria.
In fact, she felt so nervous that she would eat alone in the bathroom, inside one of the stalls, with Doritos from a vending machine. She admitted that this went on for a long time until she learned to adapt by observing others.
Priyanka also opened up about her efforts to fit in by changing parts of her identity and explaining her family’s conservative values to her peers.
Despite these initial difficulties, she eventually made friends and went on to win the Miss World title as a teenager. She made her acting debut in Bollywood and has since worked predominantly in the US.
Priyanka emphasized the importance of having a dialogue with oneself to boost confidence and overcome challenging situations. She also stated that while she doesn’t believe in “faking it till you make it,” she does believe in hyping oneself up.
Currently, Priyanka can be seen in the Prime Video Series Citadel, which is streaming on Amazon Prime.
