Netflix India has recently released an exciting web series called Rana Naidu, featuring Tollywood’s Victory Venkatesh in his OTT debut alongside Rana Daggubati. The show is the Indian adaptation of the popular American TV series Ray Donovan and has been directed by Suparn Verma and Karan Anshuman. The Hindi series is now available for streaming in different dubbed versions. Let’s take a look at the show.
Story: The plot of Rana Naidu revolves around Rana Daggubati’s character, who is a go-to problem solver for celebrities in Mumbai, be it actors or cricketers. He is well-known for his ability to resolve issues efficiently. Alongside his wife and children, Rana Naidu lives with his two brothers, Tej Naidu (Sushanth Singh) and Pawan Naidu aka Jaffa (Abhishek Banerjee), in Mumbai.
However, the story takes an unexpected turn when Rana Naidu’s father, Naga Naidu (played by Venkatesh Daggubati), is released after 15 years of imprisonment and comes to live with his son. Rana Naidu despises his father and harbors deep hatred toward him. The series explores the reasons behind Rana Naidu’s animosity towards his father, the impact of Naga Naidu’s arrival on Rana Naidu’s life, and the circumstances that led to Naga Naidu’s imprisonment.
Analysis: The latest Netflix series ‘Rana Naidu’ stars popular family actor Venkatesh and his nephew, Pan-Indian Actor Rana Daggubati in prominent roles. However, many are disappointed with the Daggubati family for compromising their reputation and values for the sake of monetary gain.
The series has been deemed disgusting and repulsive due to its graphic nudity, sexual content, and vulgar language. It’s disheartening to see Venkatesh, who is known for his family-friendly image, participating in such distasteful material.
Netflix has been known to incorporate forced sexual content and obscene language in its Indian entertainment offerings, mimicking Western standards. However, the Indian government has yet to implement censorship regulations for OTT shows.
It’s embarrassing to attempt to watch such a series on a public platform, and it’s no wonder many viewers have opted out after only a few minutes. Daggubati Suresh Babu, who is known to be a prominent figure in the film industry, has reportedly allowed his son and brother to participate in this low-quality production simply because of financial gain.
While Venkatesh may have a respectable image among family audiences, his involvement in such material only serves to tarnish his reputation. It’s high time the Indian government imposes censorship on Netflix and other widely-watched OTT platforms, as it’s done for Western films shown on Indian TV channels.
The Indian government has banned Netflix documentaries on political grounds in the past, but it’s equally important to protect Indian culture and social norms from being undermined by such productions. We appeal to the government to take swift action and implement censor norms for all OTT platforms, including ‘Rana Naidu.’
