Ahead of the release of Christopher Nolan’s film “Oppenheimer.” There was excitement among Indians as the makers hinted that the lead character, Oppenheimer, read the sacred book of Hindus, the Bhagavad Gita. However, after the film’s release, there is controversy surrounding a scene depicting an intimate moment between the lead characters while reading the holy book.
As a result, many Indians are now calling for a ban on the film and demanding an apology from the makers, stating that their sentiments have been hurt and the depiction of the Bhagavad Gita is inappropriate. Amidst this uproar, director Ram Gopal Varma (RGV) made comments that seemed to mock Indians for the controversy.
In a social media post, RGV pointed out the irony that an American nuclear scientist, Oppenheimer, read the Bhagavad Gita, while he believes that only a minuscule percentage of Indians have actually read it. Previously, RGV had praised Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” film, and now his comments may further fuel the reaction from Indian audiences.
It remains to be seen how Indians will react to RGV’s remarks amidst the ongoing debate about the film’s portrayal of the sacred text and the emotions it has stirred among the audience.
