Director Gunasekhar’s latest film, “Shaakuntalam,” based on Kalidasa’s “Abhijnana Shakuntalam,” has been facing several hurdles even after the completion of filming. Gunasekhar, known for his successful films like “Choodalani Undi” and “Okkadu,” has been struggling to deliver a hit in recent years. Despite releasing multiple posters and a trailer, the hype surrounding the film seems to have dwindled, with distributors and exhibitors showing little interest even at lower prices.
“Shaakuntalam,” tells the story of the epic love affair between Shakuntala and King Dushyant of Mahabharat. The film, which will be released on April 14th in 3D in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada, is Gunasekhar’s first movie in seven years since the 2015 period drama “Rudhramadevi.” The film’s success now heavily relies on Samantha’s star power and Gunasekhar’s grand execution. Along with Samantha, the film also features Dev Mohan, Aditi Balan, Ananya Nagalla, Mohan Babu, and Prakash Raj in significant roles.
