Famous Telugu character artist Karate Kalyani has often found herself embroiled in controversies. Recently, her comments regarding the unveiling of a massive statue of the late NTR in Khammam drew significant attention.
The statue, crafted in the form of Lord Krishna, was intended to commemorate NTR’s centenary. However, Kalyani objected to this representation, criticizing the decision to depict NTR as a deity. She questioned why NTR was being elevated to the status of a god. These remarks landed her in trouble, with the Movie Artistes Association (MAA) expressing their anger towards her. Kalyani was issued a show-cause notice to explain her controversial comments. Unfortunately, she failed to provide an explanation within the given timeframe, resulting in the cancellation of her membership from the association.
Karate Kalyani expressed her sadness over this outcome and claimed she did not understand what she had done wrong. She clarified that she was not against the idea of a statue dedicated to NTR, but rather against portraying him as Lord Krishna. She questioned why idols of gods were not created for every hero if it was acceptable to depict them in the form of deities.
Kalyani expressed her remorse for being unable to respond to the notices promptly due to illness. Meanwhile, her suspension was announced. Having spent 23 years in the industry, Karate Kalyani stated her determination to remain in the field even if her membership was revoked. She accused someone of conspiring against her.
