Brahmastra is a big film by all means to Bollywood – for starters, it is said to be a part of trilogy that Dharma Productions will be making along with Fox Studios. Then, it brings together some of the biggest names in Bollywood – Amitabh Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt. Third, but surely not the least, the film brings together current beaus Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt on screen for the first time.
And to add to it all, Brahmastra falls under the fantasy genre, which is unusual for Hindi cinema. No wonder that Karan Johar is pretty hyped about the project and cannot wait to release in theatres, once the pandemic subsides.
In fact, the release date had become a joke of sorts with the number of times it was changed, but the crew is confident that it will not affect the film’s success at the BO.
The film’s shooting has been done at various locations to provide grandeur and it is said to be VFX-heavy.
So, when Disney+, Hotstar approached Fox Studios to release the film on their OTT platform, Karan Johar is said to have been cold in his response. Given the scale, the actors, the story and its treatment, Karan feels the film owes a theatrical release.
Disney+ and Hotstar want to cash in on the film by streaming it on OTT, as it will break records in streaming world. But, Karan Johar, being equally shrewd wants his way.
For now, the talk of sequels has been set aside and both Fox Studios, Dharma Productions and director Ayan Mukherjee are focusing on wrapping up the shoot and moving on to post-production work.
