GV Prakash Kumar not only stars as the hero but also produces Kingston, which is set to release this Friday (March 7) in both Telugu and Tamil languages. The movie is produced under the banners of Parallel Universe Pictures and Zee Studios.
Touted as India’s first sea adventure thriller, Kingston features Divyabharathi as the female lead. This marks her second collaboration with GV Prakash Kumar after Bachelor. Ahead of the film’s release, she interacted with the Tollywood media. Here are the highlights from that interview…
Hi, Divyabharathi! How are you?
I am doing great! I am happy to be in Hyderabad for Kingston promotions.
Last year, though your role in Maharaja was brief, it left a strong impact! Isn’t it?
Thank you! That film was a big success in Telugu as well. My character received a lot of appreciation in Tamil, and I am glad to see the same love from the Telugu audience. I am really happy to receive so much praise from here.
Your pairing with GV Prakash Kumar in Bachelor was well-received. Now, you are collaborating again in Kingston. How was your experience this time?
Bachelor was a big hit, and honestly, I never expected it to be released in Telugu. But once it did, it got a great response. Compared to that film, Kingston is entirely different. It’s India’s first sea adventure thriller. I am also excited that this is GV Prakash Kumar’s first film as a producer. When I was initially offered the role, he was the sole producer, and later, Zee Studios came on board. He put in a lot of hard work for this film, and I am really happy to be a part of it.
GV Prakash mentioned that he got injured while filming action scenes. Did you face a similar experience?
I didn’t suffer any injuries. Our action choreographer, Dhileep Subbarayan, took a lot of precautions. I also did some preparation for the action sequences.
Usually, heroines don’t get many opportunities to perform action scenes. Were you thrilled about getting such an opportunity?
It’s quite rare to get such roles. Doing action for the first time was a thrilling experience. I even performed rope sequences in this film. That’s when I realized how tough action scenes can be! I am not sure if I will get another challenging project like this again. I have already watched the film, and I am really happy with it. Now, I am just excited to see when the audience gets to watch it!
Can you tell us about your character in Kingston?
In Bachelor, I played a city girl, but in Kingston, I portray a village girl. The people in the village rely on fishing for their livelihood. The entire village consists of fishermen living by the sea. But why did they suddenly stop fishing? What curse is haunting them? And how do the hero and heroine play a role in solving this mystery? You will have to watch the film to find out! I play the hero’s love interest. While the hero tries to save the village, how does the heroine support him? Why does she accompany him into the sea? That’s what Kingston is all about.
GV Prakash mentioned that Kingston is planned as a franchise with three more stories. Will your role continue?
Yes! My character will continue in the upcoming parts as well.
You speak Telugu so well! Where did you learn it?
I have acted in a Telugu film titled GOAT, starring Sudigali Sudheer, which is ready for release. Also, my assistant is Telugu-speaking, so I practice speaking with him. That’s how I am learning!
Who are your favorite Telugu heroes?
I am a big fan of Power Star Pawan Kalyan! I really love Khushi. And, of course, Pushpa Raj, Allu Arjun!
What are your upcoming projects?
I have completed two films in Tamil. In Telugu, I am currently in discussions for two projects.
