Daggubati Purandeswari, recently appointed as the chief of Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) AP wing. Is speculated to opt for the MLA elections instead of contesting as an MP candidate in the upcoming elections. Fondly known as Chinnamma, she received a warm welcome in Andhra Pradesh, and the party has high expectations from her.
While many theories surround her potential contributions, one prominent discussion revolves around her contesting the MLA polls. According to media reports, Purandeswari aims to secure a seat in the state Assembly and is exploring suitable constituencies.
Two options, Rajampet and Parchur, are being considered, with Parchur being favored due to her in-law’s family legacy and her husband’s previous victories there. Moreover, the Kamma community’s dominance in Parchur, both economically and politically, is seen as an advantage for her electoral success.
Purandeswari, having served as a Union Minister in the UPA government, has contested MP seats throughout her career. However, she faced setbacks in the 2014 and 2019 elections, leading her to contemplate a shift towards the MLA elections. Her move is viewed as an opportunity for the BJP to establish a presence in Andhra Pradesh’s political landscape and open its account in the state in the forthcoming elections.
