Getting a 3 and half stars from top reviewers is no mean task for a film. Varun Dhawan, Sara Ali Khan starrer has been released on Amazon Prime Video as a Christmas special.
The film produced by Vashu Bhagnani has been directed by Varun Dhawan’s father David Dhawan. A remake of ’90s Govinda-Karishma Kapoor film, the film has surely won the hearts of Indian audiences.
The David Dhawan mark comedy has come as a refreshing change from the heavy-duty web series that the Indian audiences have been living off during the pandemic.
So, the timing was perfect and so was the storytelling. The goofiness of the film did work its magic on the viewers who are starved for good old mass entertainers.
Coolie No 1 as the title suggests has Varun Dhawan playing a coolie, who falls in love with a richie-rich girl Sara Ali Khan. In order to marry her, he woos her saying he is a huge business magnet and Sara promptly falls for him and even ties the knot.
It’s only later that she comes to know of the truth, that the drama begins.
Well, there are some reviewers who have totally thrashed the film saying it is a pale version of the ’90s film and insist that much has changed in the world since then.
However, on the whole, Varun Dhawan’s Coolie No 1 is more colourful and seems to be getting decent number of views on OTT.
