During the Corona era most of the movies in the South skipped the theatrical release and were released in OTTs. But most of them are short films. Recently a few big scale movies like V and Nisabdham have been released but except for them all are small scale movies. But now ‘Aakasham Nee Haddura’ starring a superstar like Surya has been released by Amazon Prime. Everyone was shocked when it was announced a few months back that the film was going to be released like this.
Questions have been raised as to whether a big hero like Surya will hold the film for a long time and release it in theaters. Tamil Nadu exhibitors have also expressed outrage at Surya over the issue. Surya, signaled the digital release of ‘Akasham Nee Haddura‘ during the release of ‘Pon Magal Vandal’ starring his wife Jyothika.
However, Surya recently revealed that this was not a decision he made voluntarily. He said he was in a dire situation where he could not wait for the reopening of theaters. He said that Corona came at a time when seven films in his production were on the sets. This made the situation of hundreds of families of the people who were part of these films questionable. At one point, he said, he ran out of money and could not pay their salaries.
He said that his film was made for theaters but had to be released due to unavoidable circumstances, but he was happy to reach out to more people along the way. ‘Akasham Nee Haddura’, directed by Sudha Kongara, has been released two days ago and is getting a good response.
