Visakhapatnam: The poisonous gas leak in LG Polymers in Gopalapatnam, Visakhapatnam resulted in the death of 8 people. More than 200 people fell sick. THE entire KGH is filled with the victims of poisonous gas.

Doctors are treating three children on a single bed. People have been shifted to the hospital through ambulances, vans, and cars.

In the midst of all this, popular chemical scientist Sundararamaiah speaking to scribes made shocking revelations. He said till now there is no medicine for this poisonous gas known as Styrene.

Elaborating further, Sudararamaiah said ‘ People will suffer from breathing complications and problems in lungs due to Styrene Gas. The gas should be used in places where there is no human inhabitation. Had the authorities been alert when the gas leak happened at 3.30 AM early morning, the styrene gas would have made such a dangerous impact. Its impact will be there for the next 48 hours. The use of milk, curd, cream, honey to the body will reduce the burning sensation. Inhaling Tulasi leaves will infuse oxygen to the body”

However, Union Minister for Home, State Affairs, Kishan Reddy said Styrene has an antidote in Gujarat and they are bringing it to Visakhapatnam. He said ‘ LG Polymers Pvt Ltd officials told me that Styrene could be eradicated with PTBC and we have discussed the same with Home Minister Amit Shah. The antidote is available in Vapi, Gujarat and from there we will bring it to Visakhapatnam via Daman AirPort. Similarly, chemical experts from Pune would come to analyze the situation.”

TBC is called as 4-tert-Butylcatechol. It is used as a stabilizer and polymerization inhibitor to butadiene, styrene, vinyl acetate, and other reactive monomer streams.
