SHAMSHERA MOVIE REVIEW

Starring: Ranbir Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt, Vaani Kapoor, Ronit Bose Roy, Saurabh Shukla

Director: Karan Malhotra

Producers: Aditya Chopra

Music Director: Mithoon

It’s been a long time since Ranbir Kapoor was seen on screen. The actor hasn’t appeared in any movie after Sanjay Dutt’s biopic Sanju in which he played the titular role which was released in 2018. After a long gap of four years, Ranbir Kapoor has come with a period action drama Shamshera which also featured Sanjay Dutt. Let’s see what’s the movie is all about.

Story:

The Khamerans were badly affected in the war between the Mughals and the Rajput’s. Eventually, they become slaves and get ill-treated by the British regime. With no option being left the Khamerans become burglars and snatch away the wealth from the upper caste. To curb their menace and bring the situation under control, the Britishers come up with a treaty of compromise with Khamerans with the help of Shuddh Singh, a Police officer (Sanjay Dutt). The leader of the Shamshera group (Ranbir Kapoor) accepts this. However, the British take advantage of their situation and cheat the Khamerans. For the sake of his people, Shamshera sacrifices his life. Malla (Young Ranbir) , the son of Shamshera, takes up his father’s job. What happened to Khamerans? Did his son fulfill his father’s wish forms part of the rest of the story.

Plus Points:

Ranbir Kapoor excelled in both the roles as Shamshera and Malla. His body language, energy, and performance are a treat to watch.

Few action scenes and the train episode in the pre-climax is very good.

VFX works top-class.

Minus Points:

The basic storyline is the biggest drawback in the movie as it’s quite routine and every scene is predictable.

Sanjay Dutt’s role is badly written and I wonder what made him accept such a role.

The movie has a lot of boring scenes and the movie’s run time is another minus point.

Verdict:

On the whole, Shamshera is an excruciatingly horrible action movie that inflicts more torture on the audience. An easy skip.
