Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan, who recently underwent heart surgery at Fortis Hospital in Delhi, died on Thursday. Paswan, 74, who has been active in politics for more than five decades and one of the country’s most prominent Dalit leaders, has been in the hospital for the past few weeks.
His son Chirag Paswan tweeted as “Miss u papa” while informing about his father’s demise.

Paswan, an eight-time Member of Parliament for the Lok Sabha, went to jail during Indira Gandhi’s tenure. He began his political career as a member of the Sanyukta Socialist Party and became a member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly in 1969.
Paswan has served as Union Minister under five Prime Ministers and he is a member of all national coalitions. He hails from Shahrabani village in Khagaria district of Bihar. His son Chirag Paswan is currently leading the LJP.
