BARC: NO TRP ratings for News Channels next 3 months

Due to the clutter of some channels, the overall TRP ratings gone down. BARC has announced that it will suspend ratings to news channels for three months.

Starting with News Genre ’, the action will take effect immediately and the exercise is expected to take approximately 8-12 weeks, including certification and testing under TechCom supervision.

Bark India Chairman Puneet Goenka said, “In the light of recent developments, the Board is of the view that the industry and the Council need a break from reviewing its existing strict protocols and working closely to further enhance them. The focus should be on collaborating for industry growth and good-natured competitiveness ”.

Meanwhile, the CEO of BARC India, Sunil Lulla, said, “We at BARC take our role in truthfully and faithfully reporting ‘What India Watches’ with the greatest sense of responsibility and work with integrity to ensure that our audience estimates (ratings) remain true to their purpose. Besides augmenting current protocols and benchmarking them with global standards, BARC is actively exploring several options to discourage unlawful inducement of its panel home viewers and further strengthening its Code of Conduct to address viewership malpractice”.
