Why Is Deepika Absent At Comic-Con?

Indian Cinema is taking its promotions to a global level, and it’s a milestone for the industry as Kalki2898AD, also known as Project K, marks its debut at the renowned Hollywood event, Comic-Con. With plans to have the entire cast attend this prestigious occasion, stars like Kamal Haasan and Prabhas were already present in San Diego, the venue for Comic-Con. However, one prominent star, Deepika Padukone, couldn’t make it to the event due to an unavoidable reason.

Deepika Padukone, a member of SAG-AFTRA (Screen Actors Guild- American Federation of Television and Radio Artists), had to refrain from attending the San Diego Comic-Con because of the ongoing historic strike in Hollywood. As part of the strike, the union specified that actors cannot participate in promotional or publicity services.

The strike was announced by the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) after failing to reach a new labor agreement with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. This move garnered solidarity from other stars, including Priyanka Chopra, who also expressed support for the cause on social media.

As Deepika Padukone had previously been associated with Hollywood, featuring in the film XXX Return Of Xander Cage alongside Vin Diesel in 2017, she was bound by the SAG-AFTRA guidelines and, thus, couldn’t be present at the event.

The highly anticipated Nag Ashwin directorial also boasts a stellar cast including Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, and Disha Patani in pivotal roles. Despite Deepika’s absence, the first glimpse of the movie was unveiled at the San Diego Comic-Con, adding to the excitement surrounding this groundbreaking Indian film.
