Megastar Chiranjeevi is still considered as the biggest star in the Telugu film industry. He was unparalleled from the early 80s to the mid-2000s and several top directors have dreamt of working with him at least for once in their careers. However, a star director refused to work with Chiranjeevi.
Going back into the details, though Chiranjeevi was delivering hits, he couldn’t create the magic of delivering an industry hit after Gharana Mogudu. After his previous movie Daddy turned out into a flop, Chiranjeevi was looking for a mass movie to excite his fans and producer Ashwini Dutta introduced Chinni Krishna who was at the peak of his career as a writer.
Impressed with his script, producer Ashwini Dutt and dialogue writers Paruchuri brothers approached director B. Gopal to direct this movie as he has delivered super hits Samarasimha Reddy and Narasimha Naidu which are set in the faction backdrop.
However, B.Gopal was reluctant to work with Chiranjeevi as he delivered a dud in the form of a Mechanic Alludu movie and wasn’t sure he can deliver a hit this time. But, Paruchuri Gopalakrishna convinced him and he directed the movie. Indra which was released amidst huge expectations turned out to be an industry hit and proved Chiranjeevi’s box-office stamina once again.
