The announcement of the election date has caused a flurry of developments in Telangana politics. Parties are working hard to put plans into action and intensify their campaigns. The Telangana Bharatiya Janata Party, initially seen as a strong opposition, faced setbacks with leaders leaving, notably actress-turned-politician Vijayashanthi. Vijayashanthi, a T-BJP member for some years, shocked many by resigning just weeks before the polls. Speculation suggests she might join the Congress party soon, potentially marking her return to the party.
Meanwhile, Congress is experiencing a resurgence in the state. Several leaders from different parties, including three from the BJP, have switched sides, signaling a strengthening of Congress in the region. Vijayashanthi’s departure from T-BJP was reportedly influenced by not receiving an MLA ticket for the upcoming elections and being excluded from the list of star campaigners, leading to her frustration.
Her political journey began in the late ’90s with the BJP, followed by forming her own party in support of the Telangana movement. This party later merged into TRS, now known as BRS. Vijayashanthi faced suspension and subsequently joined the Congress before later aligning with the BJP. Her likely return to Congress is perceived as a significant move in the state’s political scenario.
Allegedly, her lack of recent involvement in party activities disappointed T-BJP leadership, adding to the reasons for her exit. This political maneuvering reflects the dynamic and evolving nature of politics in Telangana ahead of the upcoming elections.
