Ram Pothineni is definitely one of the most talented actors in Tollywood, but unfortunately he couldn’t hit the top league and is in the tier-2 hero range. The actor who has been doing mostly the rom-coms has been trying to prove himself as an action hero. After the debacle of Jagadam, Ram stayed away from action entertainers, however, post the success of iSmart Shankar, Ram is focusing more on such movies. The actor came up with a high-voltage action movie The Warrior directed by N. Lingusway. The expectations were high after the ‘Bullet’ song topped the chartbusters. Let’s see whether the movie can create the much-needed mass image to Ram and becomes another hit in his kitty or not.
Story:
Satya (Ram) is doctor by profession and works at a Government hospital in Kurnool which is ruled by the ruthless local don Guru (Aadhi Pinishetty). The don is so powerful that even the policemen become helpless. Being an upright man, Satya revolts against Guru and fails miserably. Vexed up with this, Satya decides to become a cop and he becomes an IPS officer. He gets posted to Kurnool as a DSP. How a doctor becomes an IPS officer? How does he take revenge on the dreaded don is the rest of the story.
Analysis:
The first half of the movie is quite engaging and is fast-paced. Linguswamy’s trademark style of elevating the mass scenes makes the movie an interesting watch. However, the second half when a helpless doctor becomes tough and strong IPS officer, the movie becomes dull and the confrontation scenes between the hero and villain appears unappealing and spoils the second half.
Ram has done justice to both the roles and he’s apt for them. Aadhi Pinishetty is at his usual best as Ram’s nemesis. Krithi Shetty is ok and her role is limited. Though songs are good, DSP’s BGM fails this time.
Plus Points:
Ram’s performance
Mass appealing first half
Three good songs
Negatives:
Second half
Predictable story
Verdict:
On the whole, with an average first half and boring second half, The Warrior is a mediocre movie which can be watched once if there’s time to kill or can wait for the OTT release.
