The controversial film ‘The Kerala Story’ directed by Sudipto Sen was released on Friday and received poor reviews from Bollywood critics. However, the film did well at the box office and garnered positive reactions from the audience. Despite this, the movie was not shown in Kerala despite a high court order to stay its release. Now, the Tamil Nadu Multiplex Association has announced that it will boycott the film and stop its screening in Tamil Nadu due to potential law and order issues and lack of reception from the public.
The Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) in Tamil Nadu had earlier protested against the release of the film, and Manithaneya Makkal Katchi president and MLA M.H. Jawahirullah called for the state government to ban the film, alleging that it was made with a motive to insult a particular religion and political ideology.
Starring Adah Sharma, Yogita Bihani, Siddhi Idnani, and Sonia Balani, the movie tells the story of three girls who are allegedly radicalized by Islamic fundamentalists in Kerala. The film has faced criticism for spreading misinformation and promoting Islamophobia. The plot revolves around the girls’ indoctrination and conversion to Islam by an aide to ISIS, and the consequences that follow.
