Adding to the spiritual depth of the occasion, Sri M, spiritual teacher (recipient of the Padmabhushan Award 2020) shared:

“I am sure this Bhagavatam will turn out to be a wonderful experience for everyone. Unlike the Ramayana, which flows in a single stream, the Bhagavatam consists of many streams — like a bouquet made of diverse flowers. All my blessings and the blessings of my Guru Parampara are with you, and I’m confident the team will bring it all together beautifully and deliver something truly exceptional.”

In his keynote address, the Chief Minister paid tribute to the late Dr. Ramanand Sagar, calling Shrimad Bhagavatam “a tribute to a legendary filmmaker whose work continues to inspire generations.”

Praising the legacy of Indian epics, he stated:

“The Ramayana, Mahabharata, and Shrimad Bhagavatam are not just stories — they are the soul of our culture and tradition. I commend the producers and directors for envisioning this project and making it a reality.”

He fondly recalled the cultural impact of the original Ramayan television series:

“When Ramayana aired on Doordarshan, the streets would fall silent. There were only two reasons for that in Hyderabad — one was curfew, and the other was Ramayana.”

“Even during the COVID-19 lockdowns, the re-telecast of Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan set world records, proving how timeless and beloved that creation is.”

Commending the choice of Ramoji Film City as the shooting location, the CM emphasized:

“Ramoji Film City is a studio unlike any other in the country — it sets an example not just for India, but for the world. I am proud that this monumental project is being filmed here in Telangana.”

He further remarked:

“Just as films like Baahubali broke barriers and redefined Indian cinema, I believe Shrimad Bhagavatam too will achieve greatness and touch hearts across the globe.”

“The Telangana State Government stands firmly in support of this endeavor and wishes the entire team grand success,” he concluded. ⸻

A first-of-its-kind cinematic adaptation, Shrimad Bhagavatam is a multi-part epic film series that brings to life the timeless teachings of the Vedas and Puranas through a powerful narrative centered on the avatars of Lord Vishnu. The project adapts all 18,000 verses across 12 Skandas of India’s most revered Purana, blending devotion, philosophy, and ancient wisdom with world-class filmmaking.

Mentored by spiritual teacher Sri M and envisioned by Moti Sagar, creator of the legendary TV epics Ramayan (1987) and Shri Krishna (1993), the film is helmed by Akash Sagar Chopra (CEO & Director) and Amrit Sagar, National Award-winning director of 1971.

Dedicated to the memory of Dr. Ramanand Sagar and Smt. Leela Sagar, this film is a heartfelt tribute to their enduring legacy.

The project also includes the finest global talent, with Mr. Clwyd Edwards as Excecutive Producer, who has been a visual effects producer and supervisor for various international films and series such as Life of Pi, Harry Potter Series, The Jungle Book, Marvel, Game of Thrones and many more. Director of Photography Joel Schaeffer, also joins the project,a Master’s graduate in Cinematography from AFI with over 20 years of experience, whose credits include blockbusters like Mission: Impossible, Star Trek, and Fast & Furious 7.

Shrimad Bhagavatam Part One is expected for a grand theatrical release in 2026 in multiple languages, and has been devotionally crafted with over four years of sanskrit research, by the same team who worked on the Ramayan 1987. With a deep focus on story, going deep into the aspects of bhakti, the project will be shot using IMAX-certified large-format cameras and will feature global grade visual effects to enhance the experience — bringing India’s sacred heritage and spiritual wisdom to global audiences like never before. The project aims to be a movement to reintroduce India’s spiritual heritage, values, and divine stories to a new generation — across languages, across continents, and across time.
