The remarks made by Telangana PCC chief Revanth Reddy regarding the provision of free power supply to farmers have ignited a heated debate. Reddy, addressing mediapersons in America, stated that the BRS government’s decision to provide 24-hour free power to farmers in the state was unnecessary. Revanth Reddy argued that numerous farmers in Telangana, owning small landholdings of 2-3 acres, would require power for over three hours to efficiently irrigate their land.
He further alleged that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao was misusing the policy of free power for personal gain, and that it was being exploited for vested interests. Political analysts anticipate that these remarks will face backlash from the farming community, potentially impacting the party’s vote share. Furthermore, they expect the opposition parties, including the BRS and BJP, to misinterpret Reddy’s statements for their own benefit.
The BRS leaders swiftly condemned Revanth’s comments, branding the Congress as an anti-farmer party. They accused the party of historical neglect towards farmers and warned that a Congress government would subject the farming community to similar hardships. In response, PCC leader Komatireddy Venkat Reddy defended the Congress, reminding that the party had implemented free power supply during its previous regime and would continue to do so.
He requested the video recording of Revanth Reddy’s press conference before issuing a statement. Political observers emphasize that Revanth Reddy should have exercised more caution with his words, considering the scrutiny from rival parties aiming to exploit any potential political advantage in the upcoming elections.
