South-Indian female superstar Nayanatara turns 36 today. Having made her debut with Ayya in Tamil and Lakshmi in Telugu, she was successful from the word go. Nayanatara has had a successful stint in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and even Kannada.
In Telugu she has acted alongside all top stars like Chiranjeevi, Balakrishna, Venkatesh. After having a long stint as a leading lady, she had a brief lull in her career. During this time, she was written off by media and the industry. But the Malayalee beauty struck back and gave a series of hits in strong female-centric characters.
While she is seen as the female protagonist in Telugu films, most of her films in Tamil are woman-oriented roles and have won her great applause and critical acclaim. She has also won several awards apart from Filmfare awards.
Not many are aware that Nayanatara who was born a Christian took to Hinduism at an Arya samaj temple in Chennai.
During downtime in her career, she made more headlines due to her personal life, rather than films. For starters, there was the rather ugly incident of her break-up with Prabhu Deva, then there was the highly publicised relationship with Tamil actor Simbu.
But none could stop Nayanatara and she once again found a firm footing in the film industry. Presently, she is dating director-producer Vignesh Sivan.
Wishing her on her special day, Vignesh posted two pictures on social media and wished, “Happy birthday to you, Thangamey.” One picture is that of Nayanatara in LA and another is the poster of Vignesh-produced Netrikann or blind, which is a remake of a Korean movie.
