In the 2019 elections, Nandigama Suresh, a relatively unknown youth leader, unexpectedly secured a victory as the Bapatla MP candidate from YS Jagan Reddy’s YSRCP in the Telugu states. Despite his lack of political experience, Suresh won with a significant majority of 16,065 votes against the TDP candidate.
However, for the upcoming elections, YS Jagan has decided not to field Suresh as an MP candidate again. Instead, he plans to replace him with retired IAS officer Vijay Kumar, who has expressed interest in joining politics and has grown close to Jagan after holding a key post in the government.
There have been allegations of Jagan making decisions based on personal preferences rather than sticking to his stated positions, fueling speculation about candidate changes. One scenario being discussed is moving Suresh from MP to contest as an MLA in the Thadikonda constituency, replacing the current MLA Sridevi. However, Suresh’s previous performance in Thadikonda’s elections was poor.
Suresh appears to be unhappy with this potential move, as he may be reluctant to shift from his MP position to contest as an MLA. The situation is still evolving, and there may be further discussions within the YSRCP about candidate selection for the upcoming elections.
