Next month, a Bhumi Puja is scheduled to take place for the construction of numerous houses in the R5 zone of Amaravati, the capital region. Jaganmohan Reddy Muhurta has been set for the 8th of July. The government plans to build 47,000 houses simultaneously in the R5 zone and has obtained permission from the central government after submitting a proposal.
Jagan, aiming to construct thousands of houses under the central government’s housing scheme, has already distributed house plans to many individuals. The state government has requested permission and funding from the Center to build houses in these areas.
Surprisingly, the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee swiftly granted approval during their recent meeting, despite ongoing legal disputes regarding house titles. Although the high court has stipulated that house titles may be distributed, they are subject to the final judgment. Typically, permissions are not granted in such cases with legal implications. However, the central government has given the go-ahead.
The challenge lies in constructing thousands of houses simultaneously. In the event that the final court judgment is unfavorable to the government, the fate of the built houses remains uncertain. The central government will allocate Construction costs Rs. 1.5 lakh each house, plus a state government contribution of Rs. 30,000. If the central share is utilized, a total of 705 crore rupees will be spent for 47,000 houses.
Despite the potential jurisdictional issues, it is astonishing that the central government granted approval for the allocation of 705 crore rupees. If the court ruling goes against the government after the houses are built, it raises the question of whether the central or state government will reclaim them. This decision to construct 47,000 houses in the first phase and an additional 4,000 houses in the second phase has indeed raised eyebrows.
