Legendary director Mani Ratnam, who became a Pan-India sensation three decades ago with movies like Roja, Bombay, and Yuva, spoke at a promotional event in Hyderabad on Sunday. The occasion was the upcoming release of Ponniyin Selvan 2 (PS 2), set to hit theatres on April 28th.
Mani Ratnam credited director Rajamouli with creating a path for Indian mythological films, stating that without the success of Baahubali in two parts, PS 2 may not have become a two-part project. He expressed gratitude to Rajamouli for giving the Indian cinema industry confidence to produce historical films.
Despite attempts to bring Ponniyin Selvan to the big screen in 1994 and 2011, Ratnam was unsuccessful. However, with the backing of Lyca Productions, Pen India Limited, and Red Giant Movies, the first part of PS was released on September 30th, 2022, receiving a positive response from Tamil audiences.
