Along with Itlu Maredumally Nijoyakavargam, a small-budget Tamil dubbed movie Love Today had its release today. As Dil Raju released it in Telugu, the movie has generated a decent buzz. Let’s see what the movie is all about. Story

Pradeep (Pradeep Ranganathan) and Nikita (Ivana) are in deep love and they want to take their relationship to the next level. As they want to get married, they approach Nikita’s dad (Satyaraj) and inform him of the same. But, Nikita’s dad puts a crazy condition. He asks them to exchange their phones for a day and would agree to their wedding if they don’t end up without any issues. They both agree to his condition without realizing that this small step can change their life in a big way. What happens next in their lives is the whole story of the film.

Plus Points:

The movie is written, enacted, and directed by Pradeep Ranganathan and he has done a superb job both as an actor and director with the movie. His story reflects the contemporary world where a mobile phone plays a crucial role in everyone’s lives. This aspect has been presented interestingly.

Pradeep as the main lead is apt and plays a possessive boyfriend with great ease. Ivana is also stunning in her role and was just amazing in the emotional scenes of the movie. The underlying message in the movie is quite relevant and how social media can be dangerous is shown well.

The first half is filled with humor. The director has shown the usage of WhatsApp and other new social apps and the issues they bring quite hilariously. The drama and emotions in the second half are good.

Minus Points:

Though the movie’s plot is quite unique and interesting, the movie takes forever to enter the main plot as the movie runs at a slow pace. The hero and heroine get into serious arguments after exchanging their phones. Hero uses foul language against the heroine but she does not retaliate much. This aspect from the girl’s side should have been elevated. The movie’s length is also a tad slow and a few scenes in the first half should have been edited.

Verdict:

On the whole Love Today is a comedy-drama that will connect to the youth instantly. The movie has good comedy in the first half and sensible drama in the second half. The good and bad effects of social media have been showcased well. It’s a decent watch.
