As a shock to the entire Indian film industry, reputed Bengali theatre and film artist Soumitra Chatterjee died earlier this morning in a private hospital in Kolkata. Chatterjee died at 85 due to deadly Covid-19 virus.
Made his debut with Bengali film, Apur Sansar, Soumitra acted in more than 200 films in his prolong six decades career.
The Indian government honoured Soumitra by awarding prestigious awards like Dadasaheb Phalke, Padma Bhushan and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award. Even the French government honoured the legendary actor with some highest awards.
