The Sankranthi season is over the several small-budget movies are making it into theatres as there are no big movies around for the next few months. A small movie Konaseema Thugs directed by the choreographer- turned-director Brinda has hit the screens today. Let’s see what’s the movie is all about.

Story:

The movie Konaseema Thugs tells the story of Seshu, played by Hridhu Haroon, who lands in jail in the Kakinada district due to unexpected circumstances. In jail, he meets Dhora, played by Bobby Simha, and Madhu, played by Munishkanth, and plans to escape along with them and a few other inmates. The reason for Seshu’s desire to escape is not explicitly mentioned, but it is assumed that he wants to clear his name and prove his innocence.

Analysis:

The film’s screenplay is engaging and keeps the audience hooked throughout the movie. Hridhu Haroon delivers a realistic and impressive performance as Seshu, while Bobby Simha delivers his usual top-notch performance as the senior inmate, Dhora. Munishkanth brings much-needed comic relief to the serious action thriller. The supporting cast, including Sarath Appani and RK Suresh, also performs well in their respective roles.

The action sequences and their choreography are realistic and intense, and the camera work and background score add to the movie’s intrigue. The cinematography by Priyesh Guruswamy and the background score by Sam CS are the major highlights of the film’s technical aspects.

However, the story is predictable and reminiscent of other prison escape movies. The female lead, Anaswara Rajan, has a limited scope to perform, and her character’s importance is not significant. The second half of the movie is a bit dull compared to the first half, and the lack of emotional depth in the characters’ backgrounds is felt.

Director Brinda proves her versatility by directing an action thriller after her debut film Hey Sinamika. The movie’s production values are good, and the art department and costume designers deserve appreciation for their excellent work.

Verdict:

Overall, Konaseema Thugs is a decent watch for fans of crime thrillers, although it may not be everyone’s cup of tea. The film’s technical aspects and performances make up for its predictable story and lack of emotional depth.
